What is Unirisco?
We are a private venture capital company.
Our body of shareholders comprises public entities, such as the three universities of Galicia (Spain), Consorcio de la Zona Franca de Vigo (Vigo Free Trade Consortium) and private companies: Inditex, Constructora San José S.A., Abanca Corporación Industrial y Empresarial S.L.; R Cable y Telecable Telecomunicaciones SA, Inversiones Capital Global SA and Banco Português de Investimento.
At which stage does Unirisco come into the project?
We invest in start-ups that are preferably in the pre-seed and seed stages. Tell us about your project and we will see how we can help you.
What are Unirisco's areas of investment?
We invest in disruptive technology-based companies that bring value to related sectors, such as the healthcare, environment, industrial and urban digitalization, and new materials sectors. Nevertheless, we may also analyse projects linked to other sectors on the basis of a viable business plan.
What type of financing do you provide?
We invest mainly in the form of capital and participating loans or any other type of financing, with the latter being only offered to investee companies.
Do you make co-investments?
Yes, we do. We co-invest together with other venture capital entities, Business Angels, individuals and companies that meet CNMV (the Spanish Securities Market Commission) and SEPBLAC’s (the Executive Service of the Commission for the Prevention of Money Laundering and Monetary Offences) requirements.
What are your investment criteria?
We invest in technology- and science-based companies, preferably linked to universities and research centres. We support highly technological projects, with a leading team in their area of knowledge and with managerial experience that are able to create innovative and disruptive products and services with a high potential.
What is your geographical area of investment?
Currently, our preferred area of investment is the Autonomous Community of Galicia (northwestern Spain), and more specifically the area of social and economic influence of the Universities of Santiago, Vigo and A Coruña, although we are open to projects coming from other Spanish and Portuguese universities.
What is Unirisco's scope of investment?
Scope of investment: pre-seed and seed stages, in some cases supporting series A rounds.
Exceptionally, we invest in recently created spin-offs, preferably by means of convertible participating loans.
Do you provide interim management services?
We do not provide interim management services and we do not provide operational advice to investee companies. We do support and advise you on other aspects, such as on the definition of your strategy, financing, marketing, internationalization and sustainability, within the scope of our Smart Money advice policy.
How long does the company have to be established to be eligible for funding?
There is no minimum period of time, although one of the relevant aspects for investing is that the product or the service must be technically and commercially viable, it must satisfy a market need, and it must have a scalable and sustainable business model.
