Main forms of venture capital

Seed financing: The contribution of resources at the pre-production phase, where there is still a technological risk.

Start-up financing: Early-stage financing of the production and the distribution, made to newly-created companies.

In some cases a distinction is made between start-up, in the exact meaning of the term, and other initial phases, including participation in newly-created businesses which have not yet shown profits.

Expansion Financing: Financial support given to an existing company to enable it to access new products and/or markets.
